Welcome back to Husband of the Month everybody! This month we will be celebrating an incredible actor who is finally getting his time in the spotlight: Mahershala Ali.
Mahershala has won two Academy Awards, both for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his roles in Moonlight and Green Book. Mahershala started off pursuing a career in professional sports, earning a basketball scholarship to St. Mary’s College of California. However, Mahershala quickly lost interest in the highly competitive atmosphere. Instead, Mahershala’s humility and constant quest to be his “best self” brought him to acting, where his commitment to always putting on the best performance has served him well. Mahershala brings an unparalleled level of empathy to each of his characters, whether it be as the villainous Cottonmouth in Marvel’s Luke Cage or as the extraordinarily charming Jim Johnson in Hidden Figures. Of course, these two roles barely encapsulate his talents; his most critically acclaimed role, as Juan in Moonlight, described by Logan Hill in The New York Times as “utterly natural, humanizing a role that is often reduced to stereotype.” Recently named one of the world’s “100 Most Influential People” by Time, there seems to be no end in sight for this incredible artist.
