Donna da Varona achieved 18 world best times and four Olympic Gold Medals as a swimmer. She became a TV broadcaster at 17, established the Women’s Sport Foundation with Billie Jean King, chaired the committee organizing the Woman’s World Cup Soccer Tournament, and was ranked by Sports Illustrated as one of the “100 Greatest Athletes.” She has been a main force in working for the empowerment of women through sports in the Olympic Movement and U.S. government as well as through private initiatives.
