On May 27, 2013, a representative from a charity called Haiti Family Initiative visited the Tower Hill community. The representative, a Wilmington native named Lynn Shapira, presented the charity’s goals and ways to get involved to the Upper School. Tower Hill sophomores, Mckenna, Taylor, and Whitney Polich, will work with the philanthropy this summer.

The Haiti Family Initiative provides a complete approach to health, education, and the welfare of the families in Jacmel, Haiti. Struck by a devastating  earthquake in 2010, the people of Jacmel live in poverty without significant access to many resources. One of the Haiti Family Initiative’s main efforts is a summer camp provided for the children of Jacmel. Young children attend the camp every day to play and learn. The Haiti Family Initiative also provides wellness programs, working alongside teachers of the summer camp; they work with Red Cross doctors as they strive to stabilize the foundation of families. The Polich sisters will be joining the Initiative this summer when they travel to Jacmel, Haiti and volunteer in its summer camp. Tower Hill students were asked to help by donating the following items, which the Polich’s and Haiti Family Initiative will bring to the children of Jacmel. Collection bins are located in homerooms.
